Welcome to the inaugural
Run Forrest Run 5/10K!
Continuing a long tradition of patriotism at the University of Notre Dame, the Run Forrest Run 5/10K kicks off April 18 in support of the Gary Sinise Foundation’s R.I.S.E. program on behalf of our country’s most severely wounded heroes. The event is a collaborative effort of Notre Dame’s ROTC service groups, dedicated to the “real Lt. Dans” who sacrifice so much for our freedom.
Believe it or not, it’s been 20 years since Gary Sinise played Lt. Dan Taylor in the movie Forrest Gump. Since then he has committed his time to making a real difference honoring our defenders, veterans, and first responders.
Keeping with the theme, the Run Forrest Run 5/10K will bring the Notre Dame community together to benefit the Gary Sinise Foundation’s work on behalf of "real Lt. Dan," USMC Sgt. Michael Frazier.
Sgt. Frazier served seven years in the Marine Corps, with four combat deployments throughout Iraq and Afghanistan. During his last deployment in Afghanistan, he stepped on an IED resulting in the loss of both legs and extensive damage to his right arm.
Through the Gary Sinise Foundation’s R.I.S.E. program, funds are being raised for an adaptive Smart Home designed to restore independence and accommodate Sgt. Frazier’s injuries for the everyday things we take for granted, including taking a plate down from a shelf, turning around in a hallway, or maneuvering in the shower. A longtime Irish fan, Sgt. Frazier and his wife Monica welcomed their first baby, Sofia, at the end of March. which adds to the significance of the Run Forrest Run fundraiser!
